昨年日本カメラに連載されたエッセイを書籍化したものです。現在活躍している12名の写真家にインタビューして、写真家の体験と経験からでた声のなかから、写真と生活していくことが果たしてどういうことなのかを面と向かってインタビューしています。「この本を書くにあたり、写真を始めたばかりの人、これから始めようとしている人に読んでもらいたいという思いがあった。」と小林氏はあとがきで書いています。

This book is based on the serialized essay in Nippon Camera in 2011.In this book, he interviewed 12 living photographers and from their episodes tried to consider what it means to live with photograpy.“In writing this book, I thought I wanted beginners and people taking up photography to read it” writes Kobayashi in the afterwork of this book.

1968年長野県茅野市生まれ。東京工芸大学短期学部写真科卒業後、新聞社にカメラマンとして入社。91年よりフリーランス。95年『ASIAN JAPANEASE』でデビュー。アジアを多く旅し、作品を制作。2000年12月〜2002年1月までニューヨーク滞在。97年『DAYS ASIA』で日本写真協会新人賞受賞。2000-2002年渡米(N.Y)。写真集、著書に『homeland』『days new york』『SUWA』『はなはねに』『父の感触』『十七歳』『昨日みたバスに乗って』など多数。

Kisei Kobayashi was born in Nagano in 1968. After graduating Tokyo Polytechnic University, he started to work in a newspaper company as a photographer.
He made his debut with “ASIAN JAPANESE” in 1995 after turning freelance in 1991.In 1997, he won Newcomer’s Award of the Photographic Society of Japan for “DAYS ASIA”.He produced many works including “homeland”, ”days new york ”, ”SUWA”, and “Hanahaneni: Life goes Full Circle”.
